Recording Tips

Composite Vocal Tracks : With all the digital recorders on the market with virtual tracks available use a trick commonly used in commercial studios. When you set up to record your lead vocal track take the extra time to have the vocalist sing the entire song 4 or 5 times using your virtual tracks. Once you've got multiple takes on seperate tracks sit down and start taking notes on what sections of the song sound best on what tracks. After carefully selecting those sections start copying and pasting each section on to a new track. The final result will be a compilation of the best takes from each track creating that always saught after perfect vocal track. If you were careful to maintain consistant levels and EQ from track to track you should be able to work line by line if need be without noticing any cuts in the final mix. Also when using this trick make sure you record all of your tracks dry and add the reverb or other effect on the final track after it's been assembled, this also helps to mask out minor imperfections in the cutting proccess. This trick also works on other tracks besides vocals, it just depends on the material being recorded.
